Africa's Only Ballon d'Or Winner Named Liberia President?
Default

Africa's only Ballon d'Or winner, George Weah, could reportedly become the first footballer to be named the president of a country after he was said to have been elected into power in Liberia. How impressive would that be?

The former AC Milan star, who also turned out for Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, is expected to be confirmed as Liberia's president within the next few hours after its citizens took to the polls two days ago.

Weah stood for the Congress for Democratic Change party, which saw him compete against 19 other candidates for the position, and this is the second time he has run for the supreme title, with his first coming in 2005.

On the field, Weah made a massive impact in France, when he signed for PSG in 1992, before being snapped up by the Italian giants, where he was famously dubbed the world's best player.

Zambia legend Kalusha Bwalya, who has also been involved in politics, is in full support of Weah becoming Liberia's leader, and backed him a few days ago to succeed.

Good luck to my friend @george_weah_official for today’s elections #georgeweah #liberia #elections

Upon hearing news of the powerful midfielder reportedly leading the polls, the 51-year-old's former Milan teammates Filippo Galli and Paolo Maldini took to Instagram to congratulate him.

Weah is just one of several footballers who have made the move into politics successfully, with fellow Rossoneri legends Andriy Shevchenko and Khaka Kaladze doing the same for their respective nations.

Do you think Weah can be a successful president if he gets elected?

I wish Mzantsi armchair soccer legends could learn something from the credentials and potential that George Weah has done for his future. In life you move on 1996 was very long time ago, what have we done moving forward?

This man had always been patriotic to his country, during his playing times, he would pay traveling fares and take care of the team with his own money. He surely deserves to be president because he has always gave his all to serve his people. CONGRATULATIONS TO AFRICA 'S BEST.
