EPL Club Joins Zungu’s List Of Admirers
Interest In Bongani Zungu Continues To Grow
English Premier League outfit, Southampton, are the latest club to join Bongani Zungu’s list of admirers following his fine form for Vitoria de Guimaraes.
Having broken into Pedro Martins’ starting XI at the start of the year, Zungu has grown by leaps and bounds in Portugal. As his side look to secure a UEFA Europa League spot and the Taca de Portugal trophy, his performances have not gone unnoticed.
The Siya crew reported last week that both Benfica and Sporting Clube de Portugal were keeping an eye on the Bafana Bafana international as he enters the last year of his contract, also noting that clubs in England and Germany were also monitoring his progress.
Now, as reported in this week’s issue of Soccer Laduma, the crew can reveal that the other interested parties are the Saints, as well as Bundesliga clubs, Hoffenheim and Mainz.
Unfortunately for Zungu, Bafana’s place in the FIFA rankings (64th) means that he is unlikely to qualify for a UK work permit, as players need to be part of a top 50 nation. However, if a hefty transfer fee is paid then an exception could be made.
Elsewhere in Portugal and Germany, however, could be very promising moves for the 24-year-old, though his club is eager to tie him down on a new contract after his sterling showings in the club’s jersey of late.
