Prosecutors Open Bribery Case Against PSG President

Prosecutors Open Bribery Case Against PSG President

By SL International - Oct 12, 2017 05:03 PM
Swiss federal prosecutors have opened a case against Paris Saint-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi for suspected bribery linked to broadcast rights for the World Cup.

The investigation involves alleged bribes offered to former FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke to award the 2026 and 2030 World Cup rights to Qatari-owned BeIN Media Group.

Al-Khelaifi is a key member of the FIFA World Cup organising commitee.

"It is suspected that Jerome Valcke accepted undue advantages from a businessman in the sports rights sector in connection with the award of media rights for certain countries at the FIFA World Cups in 2018, 2022, 2026 and 2030 and from Nasser Al-Khelaifi in connection with the award of media rights for certain countries at the FIFA World Cups in 2026 and 2030," Switzerland's Office of the Attorney General (OAG) said on Thursday, according to Sky Sports.

BeIN Sports' office in Paris were searched on Thursday as part of a criminal probe against Valcke and Al-Khelaifi, according to French authorities.
