Kekana Leaves Bafana Camp

Hlompho Kekana Excused From Bafana Bafana Camp

By Soccer Laduma - Nov 07, 2017 12:00 PM

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Hlompho Kekana has been excused from the South African national team camp due to a tragedy, which took place in his family.

According to a source within the national team setup, Kekana had to report home due to a family emergency, after receiving a call that his mother-in-law was involved in a tragic accident and passed away.

Due to the current circumstances, it is unlikely that the player will be available for selection for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter against Senegal on Friday.

Indications are that Head Coach Stuart Baxter and his technical team will assess Kekana’s situation, although as things stand, it seems that Bafana will need to call-up a replacement for the 32-year-old.

The Englishman is now short of four of his key men, with Itumeleng Khune’s injury still being monitored, Kekana’s absence and both Bongani Zungu and Andile Jali facing a one-match ban.

Now, it remains to be seen who Head Coach Baxter will call-up to replace Kekana in the national team setup.

Injured Khune asks Bafana coach Baxter to play with a mask against Senegal BY TIYANI MABASA - 07 November 2017 - 13:05 Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs during the Absa Premiership 2016/17 match between Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban South Africa on 21 December 2016. Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs during the Absa Premiership 2016/17 match between Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban South Africa on 21 December 2016. Image: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has asked to play with a mask against Senegal at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday night. Khune saw a facial specialist on Tuesday morning and it would appear that he didn’t get good news regarding his facial injury‚ hence the request for a mask. He fractured a bone in his face when Kaizer Chiefs beat Chippa United 1-0 in the Telkom Knockout quarterfinals at the weekend in Port Elizabeth. Khune will see another specialist and Bafana’s medical team led by Thulani Ngwenya will be briefed in the next few hours. As it stands‚ Khune is still in Johannesburg and has not joined the national team camp. But according to head coach Stuart Baxter‚ he’s keen to come play.

this match better come soon...at this rate Baxter will be forced to use Pirates players to replace the growing number of players. But the Meyiwa kid from Chiefs is future, he reminds me of Jali, can he be called together with Mabunda as back-up.
