“Can Gavin Hunt succeed Jonevret?” – Reader’s Voice

Default

Gavin Hunt, who has won his fourth PSL title, deserves to be recognised for his achievements in South African football.

In Dr Irvin Khoza’s made it clear in his statement before he unveiled Kjell Jonevret as Orlando Pirates’ head coach, that the man they wanted, was tied down in a contract elsewhere and he had a clause which would make it impossible for the Buccaneers to get him, unless they waited until May for the clause to expire.

There were rumours that the man in question was Gavin Hunt and with Bidvest Wits contending for the league title at that time, it was obvious Wits wouldn't allow Hunt to move on until the league title was decided.

Some even suggested that Benni might be the man Khoza cannot get, as the former Bafana striker works at SuperSport. With the new reports about Jonevret’s clause in his contract, the Swedish-born's time with Pirates will depend on where the team finishes in the league and how they do in the Nedbank Cup.

Should he fail to finish in the top eight and fail to win the Nedbank Cup, Bucs’ management might release him and go for their possible first choice, Gavin Hunt, who has proven that he has an eye for talent. His teams also don't just depend on buying experienced players and he trusts youngsters and players from the development ranks.

Can Gavin Hunt succeed Jonevret as Bucs coach? Who was the man with the contractual clause?

@LeCowhlohlo I agree with you Pirates did very well in the absence of that traitor we won treble back to back with Senzo Mazingisa. Then Khoza brought his good for nothing son back to the team we never won any silverware I think except Nedbank Cup in the hands of a 1st Division side Black Leopards.

Please Dr.Ibiza keep Shell he is a good coach. The only that need a to be done @ Pirates is to fire those rotten potatotoes i.e Floyd Mbele and Screamer Shabalala. We can even hire the likes of great coaches in the world the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Jose Mourihno, the retired Fergie Fergusson to name the few, they all can't work @ Pirates iF Mbele is still there.I appeal to Dr. Khoza to recall Mazingiza back to put beloved club.

@Mavee52 i hear you mate and i'm aware of Khoza statement but, Khoza and Kaizer are very good when comes to make ppl comfortable and pull a shocking triger the next day, the rumours about Kjell's contractual clause reminds me that he was never a right man in the first place, Khoza hired him since he couldn't get his man with Njenje experiencing heart problems.

Dr Khoza chased away Floyd Mbhele everything went well after he left, he bring him back now things don't go well, it is just a mess. What makes him come back, has to make him leave the club. Perhaps the guy is a curse I don't know. At this moment either we hire Gavin Hunt or Jose Morinho we had no players to represent this team with pride and no technical team to help this team succeed.

Even Pep Guadriola would struggle at Orlando Pirates. We don't have the quality in terms of dynamism & self confidence which is essential traits in modern football.Gavin Hunt is a great coach but the problem at Pirates is that their is no proper structure in terms of both recruitment & playing style. We don't seem to be signing players who have the mental capacity, consistency & skill to play for us.We need to focus on our academy & develop suitable players but for the time being we need to buy quality. Sundowns and wits have proven that you can succeed if you buy the right players suited to how you want to play.Has anyone ever asked why Pirates don't scout in South America,North or even West Africa anymore? Their are plenty players out their besides outside SA,you just need to look for them.

The coach with the buyout clause was Herve Renard not Gavin Hunt. The chairman said it clearly that it was a coach from overseas currently coaching a national team.

@Mr_Down what if he wanted to join Pirates but the clause in his contract with Wits doesn't allow him until atleast May? I'm not saying he wanted Bucs job but according to Khoza statement only the clause was the problem and made it impossible for him to get his first choice coach, he did not say its Hunt but it can be him.
